For decades, the City of Versailles has been exploring the idea of relocating the Versailles Police Department to a more modern and spacious facility. The availability of the property on the corner of North Main and Elm St (which had been explored as a possibility 10 years prior) provided that opportunity. The current police headquarters is extremely small, has limited parking and access, and is in need of serious repairs to solve mold and bat infestations.
The new facility, which will provide an architecturally appealing entrance into our downtown district, was designed by CMW Architects with much collaboration from police and dispatch leadership and employees and the Versailles City Council. The public was invited to comment on the exterior design. The new building will be much more secure and energy efficient. In addition, it will allow our dispatch to be self-contained, meaning they won't have to leave their direct area for food, drink, or restroom breaks, provides ample parking that doesn't impede on any other parking needs, has a community room that is accessible from the outside and is available for public use, brings our evidence storage under the same roof as the rest of our operations, and has a sally port for the secure transport of suspects and eviden
